From general rules to your personal record.

Gutward keeps four things distinct that usually end up tangled together in notes apps and spreadsheets: what a protocol says, what you've personally chosen, any known allergy, and what you've actually observed.

Four facts, kept separate on purpose.

Protocol guidance

What a chosen protocol (starting with AIP) says about a food's stage or status — stored, structured, and the same for everyone following it.

Personal status

Your own choices and observed response to a food, kept as a separate fact from the protocol rule so the two are never quietly merged.

Allergy information

A known or suspected allergy is a distinct medical fact. Gutward records it if you tell it, but never infers or tests for one.

Observed response

What you noticed after eating something — a record of what happened, not a conclusion about why it happened.

The journey, step by step.

  1. 1

    Start with structure

Choose a supported protocol, beginning with AIP, and see its rules and stages laid out in one place instead of across books and screenshots.

  2. 2

    Make the record personal

Keep your own food status, meals, symptoms and relevant notes separate from general protocol guidance, so one never overwrites the other.

  3. 3

    Test and observe carefully

Follow a step-by-step reintroduction record, with clear stop and escalation guidance where appropriate, rather than guessing what to try next.

  4. 4

    Turn information into everyday action

Use suitable recipes, planning and shopping tools so the next meal takes less thinking, not more.

An example day.

Step 1

Check in

A short morning note — how you're feeling before the day's meals begin.

Step 2

Log a meal

Record what you ate, quickly, from your frequent foods or the food library.

Step 3

Add an observation

Note anything you noticed afterwards, kept against that meal without forcing a cause.

Step 4

Review a planned reintroduction

Check the next step in an active trial and what to watch for before trying it.
Safety boundary

Where Gutward stops.

Gutward's food-trial tools are not for diagnosing or testing a suspected food allergy. If you have a known or suspected allergy, seek appropriate medical advice and do not attempt a reintroduction challenge through the app unless directed by a qualified professional.

Food suitability can change with active disease, strictures, surgery, obstruction risk, texture and fibre tolerance, medication and individual clinical circumstances. No general food list — including AIP — is suitable for every person with Crohn's disease. Gutward is designed to support your conversation with your healthcare professional, not to replace it.
